Sunrun has launched its new Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charger.
“Home solar and electric vehicle charging go hand in hand,” said Mary Powell, Chief Executive Officer of Sunrun. “There is a strong correlation between EV ownership and solar adoption. People want to charge their vehicles with a clean, reliable energy source that’s cheaper than what they’re used to paying. As we work with customers to understand their energy needs, our new EV charger, coupled with our ability to potentially upsize home solar systems to meet those needs, position us nicely to help them future-proof their homes and provide peace of mind.”
Sunrun’s new 40-amp Level 2 EV charger is a convenient solution that can charge an EV overnight and is compatible with all EV models. The charger also offers smart features, allowing customers to configure charger settings and control charging.
Available this September in select California, New Jersey, and Vermont markets, the charger will be rolled out nationwide by year end as an optional add-on with options for bundling together with a Sunrun home solar and battery system for significant savings.

Kelly Pickerel: As a child, if you had Lionel electric trains you needed a rectifier which changed AC to DC in order to operate your trains regarding their speed on DC current! When you added resistance the train would slow down and when you deleted resistance the train would speed up! You can do that with DC but not with AC. You had a handle on the rectifier that would accomplish this transition!
Kelly Pickerel: The device that you are referring to as a charger is not a charger! It is referred to as “EVSE” or Electric Vehicle Service Equipment! It only supplies 120volt or 240volt AC amperage to a mobile connector that in turn plugs into a port that is built into your vehicle! The inverter that changes the AC amperage to DC is built into your vehicle along with the DC charger that charges your vehicle’s DC battery! Stop calling the “EVSE” and mobile connector a charger! That only supplies AC amperage and voltage not DC amperage! I hope you understand the difference! Many people still call it a charger! It is not!!!
