Fronius announced its GEN24 string inverter, which has won several awards in Europe, has now been developed for the North American market.
“We are thrilled to kickstart the Fronius GEN24 Roadshow on June 20, educating solar installers across the USA on the new Fronius GEN24 inverter,” said Richard Baldinger, director of sales and marketing at Fronius USA.
Shade mitigation
Even with shaded PV modules, the integrated Dynamic Peak Manager ensures that the Fronius GEN24 delivers the highest possible energy yield, while the intelligent and highly efficient MPP tracking algorithm eliminates the need for DC optimizers with this system. Not only does this result in lower costs due to fewer system components, but also minimizes the cost of installation and servicing.
The Fronius GEN24 adapts to all mounting conditions and locations, whether indoors or outdoors. Thanks to its innovative SuperFlex design, the inverter also delivers flexibility in system planning and ensures the highest yields even on complex roofs. The broad input voltage range also allows the Fronius GEN24 to achieve efficient generation with different roof orientations.
“With the Fronius GEN24, our customers benefit from impressive efficiency and reliability. Our inverter delivers unbeatable energy yields even on the most complex roofs and, thanks to the Dynamic Peak Manager that doesn’t require DC optimizers, even when shade comes into play. This is photovoltaic technology that makes sense for everyone; simple, efficient and future-proof,” said Martin Hackl, global director of sales and marketing at Fronius International.
Other features
Inverter performance is highly temperature-dependent, which is why the Fronius GEN24 is equipped with efficient Active Cooling Technology. Thanks to active cooling, Fronius inverters last longer and deliver the best possible performance even in high temperatures.
The GEN24 also offers an integrated basic backup power supply function as standard, called PV Point. The most important electrical loads in the home (such as a phone charger or WIFI routers) can be supplied with energy via a designated backup power outlet. The Fronius GEN24 will also be capable of backup power in the future, supplying a house with solar power in case of a grid outage.
Software upgrade Fronius UP.storage, which transforms the Fronius GEN24 into a hybrid inverter, will soon be available for purchase. This means that the inverter hardware does not have to be replaced if a battery storage system is added later.
The Fronius inverter is simple to install and connect thanks to 180° screws and push-in spring clamps. The connection area also offers enough room for any additional components needed in the future. The Fronius GEN24 is seamlessly integrated into the digital world of Fronius solutions. Whether planning, commissioning, monitoring or service — Fronius offers digital support for every step over the entire service life of the inverter. Commissioning is particularly easy in just three simple steps with the Fronius Solar.start app.
Fronius is kicking off the GEN24 Roadshow on June 20 to educate installers and distributors about the new product.

Solarman2 says
This GEN24 is sounding like a ‘swiss army knife’ of a smart inverter. Right now I have two Fronius Primo grid tied units on my particular system. It sounds like I could use this GEN24 as a replacement for the Primo units and add battery storage to the system. This would be more cost effective than what I am considering now two isolated systems wth the capability to parallel the battery driven system with the grid tied system and be able to use the GEN24 system after hours as a self consumption system and resilience system any time the power goes out or a TOU rate spiking increase kicks in. Yeah that might work, replace two Primo units with GEN24 units and add say a Simpliphi B6.6 stackable system as battery backup when the sun goes down. It is becoming possible for one to put together their own home micro-grid and create the practice of a grid agnostic system.
